In Transit

Just wanted to let you all know that I’m in the process of moving. It made for a pretty miserable Memorial Day weekend, but at least the worst is out of the way. Updates will be a little spotty until I set up the internet connection at our new place, although I am checking e-mail daily when I’m in the office. Hopefully, I’ll be settled in at the new place by sometime next week.

In other news, congratulations are in order: The Office picked up three nominations from the Television Critics Association, including two for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy and Program of the Year, and one for Steve Carell in the Individual Achievement in Comedy category. Winners will be announced on July 23. Thank you to Kyoko for the update.

For those of you looking to revisit last week’s remarkable season finale, Office fan Jamie offers this quartet of magnificent wallpapers.

Office Wallpapers

There is some impressive technique on display here. My favorite would have to be the one featuring Dwight and the slap-happy Angela. Kudos to Jamie for putting her considerable talents to work in producing these artful desktops.

The season finale finds us sending our crew off in high style with a charity casino event hosted in the warehouse. Michael inadvertently ropes in two dates to the fashionable affair: Carol, his real estate agent, and Jan, who attends against her better judgment and discovers that her judgment is something that she should listen to more often. With the night underway, Dwight lets his emotions get the better of him and has a swollen cheek to show for it, Kevin discovers how far he has fallen from his days of yesteryear, and Jim stuns all of Office Nation with a bold display of last minute heroics.

Closing Remarks

Thursday11 May 200620 Comments

As I sit here at my desk counting down the hours to Casino Night, I feel compelled to say a few things. I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t simply a convenient way for me to pass the time. Aside from my selfish pursuits, however, there exists a genuinely important message that demands your attention.

It has been a tremendous year not just for this show, but also for us, the fans. I feel that the finale tonight marks not just the end of the season, but a sort of milestone for the online Office community. We’ve come a long way over the past several months from a meager online presence to something much more impressive. I’m proud to consider myself part of an online community that includes Jennie at OfficeTally, Kathie over at Give Me My Remote, Brian from Life in the Office, the pioneering Marc at The Office Quotes, David’s Scranton Branch (currently in the process of reinventing themselves), the LiveJournal folks, as well as the Television Without Pity crowd, and a number of other Office-related sites that continue to spring up as the show maintains its trajectory towards a bright and promising future. This may sound like a good-bye, but it’s more like a reminder of things to come (and believe me, there are things coming).

It has been a pleasure to cover The Office with the rest of you. Now, please, someone tell me how I can speed up time.

Stupendous Office Loot

Congratulations to Lori for coming out on top during the recent NBC / Universal All-Star Charity Auction. Lori was kind enough pass along this shot of her winnings, which, might I add, are stupendously awesome.

Stupendous Office Loot

Beautiful. Just beautiful. Display it proudly.

Lori has been a strong supporter of the show and of Northern Attack since it first launched. I consider her to be something of a charter member here at NA, and I can think of no other person more deserving of receiving these wonderful items. I’m glad they ended up in her hands.

As a final note, Lori would like to thank Jennie over at OfficeTally for posting a reminder of the auction on her constantly updated, always dependable calendar of upcoming events.

Michael decides to fill Toby’s shoes as chief mediator for a day, which, as it turns out, is just enough time for him to decimate the morale of his troops. His destructive influence is inescapable as deep rifts are opened in every imaginable direction. The disastrous affair leaves the office in tatters, casting even the strongest of friendships to an uncertain fate.
