Fight for Lights

Sunday11 March 2007

This post has absolutely nothing to do with The Office, thus constituting a minor abuse of power, so I’ll keep it brief. For those of you who happily tune into Friday Night Lights every week (I know there are at least a few of you in the forums) and would like to keep it that way, I’ve created Fight for Lights in the hopes of persuading NBC to bring it back for another season. More than a petition, it’s a symbol of everything that makes the show great and unique as conveyed by the press and the public.

Thank you for listening. The Office returns with extended newpeats of Traveling Salesmen and The Return this week.

I had no idea the show was in jeopardy. Friday Night Lights is simply the second best show on television, and my favorite drama. Ok...Lost and 24 are pretty good too, but don't pack quite the emotional punch of FNL for me. From the first episode's opening music and camera work I've been hooked. It has characters I've grown to care about, storylines that are creative, real and engaging, and fabulous acting. It would be a tragedy to not bring the show back. Quality shows need time to gather their audience! I'm with you, James! Thanks for creating the new site; I'll revisit it and post there too.

Thanks, gt. Reports have been varied with some insisting that the show is likely to be renewed given Kevin Reilly's fondness for it and steadily improving (though unspectacular) ratings. Others are proclaiming it a long shot.

As an enormous fan of the show, I would be remiss not to do everything I could to keep it on the air.

I keep visiting different sites and posting messages to keep Friday Night Lights and was glad to find yours as well. I am a huge fan of this show. It has so many wonderful attributes. From the music to the acting to the story lines, it is an engrossing study of life in this small Texas town. Even though it is fiction, it feels more real than the libido-driven episodes of "reality" television I have glimpsed. I will be very disappointed if this show does not survive. I have been spreading the word so that the audience for this show might gain some momentum. Thanks for the opportunity to voice my opinion.

Another critically-acclaimed show with a dedicated fanbase in danger of being cancelled. I've already had my heart broken with Arrested Development by FOX, and I hope to all that is good and holy that NBC does not follow suite with Friday Night Lights.

I'm going to start watching this based on the recommendations from here. I've started watching a couple of other shows just because people here have had great things to say about them, and I haven't been disappointed, so I know I'll love this show, too. According to GMMR, Bravo is going to start showing re-runs on Friday nights and Saturday afternoons, so people who haven't watched thus far can get caught up that way. Also, all of the complete episodes are available to watch for free on NBC.com.

Did you see that "Friday Night Lights" won a Peabody? More proof that it should stay on their air. Here's what the Peabody committee had to say about FNL:
"Friday Night Lights, adapted from the book and movie about high-octane high-school football in small-town Texas, won major props with the 15-member voting panel in its first season for being a "a richly-textured serial" representing contemporary America."

Oh wait. Yes, I have. I'm sorry, but I just don't have it in me right now to type it all out again. Besides, it was just ramblings anyway. You didn't want to hear me go on and on about this, right?

I also had no idea that Friday Night Lights was in danger of being cancelled. I've been watching it since it began & really enjoy it. It's a very good show. I will be SO disappointed if it doesnt get renewed. I really dont understand why so many of these shows arent getting more than a season to build a good fan base. It's a mistake, in my opinion. I really hope that Friday Night Lights will continue so more viewers can appreciate some quality television.
